Permaculture Earth Artisans

Permaculture

Permaculture is an integrative design science, creating systems that provide for Human needs and the Earth’s needs through mutually beneficial relationships.

Under a Permaculture model, the health of a human community, its food, water, shelter, economy, and medicine, are linked to the health of the local ecosystem, which in turn is linked to the health of all ecosystems.

Permaculture can be used in any situation, for it is proactive, solution-oriented and tangible.

Permaculture Ethics

Permaculture is based on three ethics:
Care for Earth
Care for People

Reinvest Surplus

These ethics are derived from observations of how healthy systems work. At Permaculture Artisans we use the same foundational ethics to keep our projects ecologically and socially just, and fiscally sustainable

As a practice we design to mimic nature in the most appropriate way for any site, ecosystem, or community. Through thoughtful and protracted observation and holistic design methods we start a process of restoring the Earth’s vital systems and human social systems in a way that can adapt to the ever-changing environment and social fabric.

Whole systems design

All designs by Permaculture Artisans are based in whole systems thinking. We begin by gathering information through our site inventory and intake process. We then create a design that connects all elements in the site through mutually beneficial relationships. This elemental linking is foundational in Permaculture design and whole systems thinking.

As every element becomes an integral part of the whole system, the system itself becomes more dynamic and energy efficient. These enhanced relationships result in reduced maintenance needs and increased yields.

Taking the whole system into account is a key part of the work we do. Even if Permaculture Artisans is installing only part of a whole system, those parts will be designed and installed relationally with the other elements on site or they will be built so future elements can benefit from a mutual relationship.

We can’t stress enough the benefits of taking the appropriate time to design in this way. Our goal is to build systems to last indefinitely and synergistically with the whole site and surrounding environment. As you explore this website and the different kinds of services we offer, remember this foundation in our designs and imagine all of these services woven into a holistic tapestry for your land.
